WOW No. 15, Dior
“Red is my lucky color," said Christian Dior in 1955 and it seems as long as there is fashion and RED there is Christian Dior.
This $20,000 red, 38mm watch, limited to 500 pieces, will get all the the attention anyone within its line of sight would like.
It yells and screams Dior!....but what does that mean?
I gave a talk to a small group of Dior retailers last year.
After listening to them for an hour or so it became apparent to me that they had no concept of what they were selling or at least how to introduce Dior to a customer.
Dior watches had a reputation of being just a fashion watch and that in itself is ok but the term fashion watch can be a two edged sword.
There are fashion watches and then there are Fashion Watches. One being more a pedestrian word and the uppercase version of course is in the category of fine jewelry. BUT what about the “fine timepiece” part of the watch.
If I were a betting person and knew that Dior is owned by LVMH then I could make a few predictions based on the following.
LVMH took Tag Heuer from the verge of being one of those watches your grandfather owned to one of the top three mechanical watches in the world. They mastered the art of advertising watches in todays market for both men and women. Their technical innovations have elevated them to the level of “HIGH ANTICIPATION” for every watchophile and collector.
LVMH also owns the brand “ZENITH.” Zenith is a brand that was a legend long before it became one of todays most sought after watches. Their mechanical innovations, patented inventions and contemporary designs have changed the style of the entire industry.
One more example to be mentioned is
Louis Vuitton, (the “LV” in the name LVMH) who are creating some of the most impressive
watches-with-style I have have ever seen. One of their fine timepieces is a Tourbillon that can be luxuriously customized by the customer.
Note:One of those watches you can only dream about owning and customizing.
Back to Dior:
Having a fashion name like Dior and being an LVMH family members can only give you a hint of what is being produced today and what is to come. As their history of success continues so goes Dior.
As a note to anyone looking at Dior as a product to purchase, then yes, do it. This is a fine watch company with history, tradition and as a jewelry piece, it goes without question.
For technical information about this timepiece, click here for the next page and then click on any of the Dior logos to go to their website.
Thanks for watching
